Late summer brown trout on dry flies
August 12, 2014 by Travis Honeycutt
Asheville fly fishing guide, Travis Honeycutt take Will on his first Watauga river float trip. It's not often we meet such fishy young people but Will and his brother Eric are fishy to say the least. After seeing Will cast, Travis immediately aborted nypmh fishing and started beating the banks with terrestials. Terrestial fishing can be very effective in our summer months. Hot weather and low water push some large browns towards those shady banks to wait for inch worms, beetles, crickets, ants.... This was one of those days whent there were some big boys in beetle spots! Will landed a 22 incher, 19 incher and many other 16 inchers that we released without pics. Great half day of dry fly fishing. Booking a mid summmer asheville guided fishing trip? Think about heading over the mountain to one of our wonderful tailwaters and maybe you'll be viewing your fish story here! Thanks for reading
